In 1959, Alfred Cortot (1877-1962) was made an honorary citizen of Lausanne. During the reception with many celebrities he talks with Carlo Hemmerling (director of the Conservatoire at Lausanne).

He explains how he came to devote himself almost exclusively to the work of Chopin, and why he gave up the public practice of his profession.
